Beginner bridge lessons for 2026
The ten lessons run on Monday evenings from September 28 through December 7, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. There is no class October 12. Each class starts with a short lecture followed by supervised play. No previous bridge experience is required, no partner is required, and singles are welcome.
Instructors Bob Schwab, Anne Derbes, and Andrew Straus are longtime club members, ACBL Gold Life Masters, and experienced bridge teachers.
The first class is free. The remaining nine-class series costs $150, payable in full at the second class. All materials are supplied.

The 0-20 game on first and third Mondays offers 18 boards at the beginner level for a $10 fee; at least four tables are required for masterpoints. Advance signup is requested. Supervised play uses prepared hands to teach bidding, declarer play, leads, and defense. The club also offers mentoring, beginner lessons, Chalk Talks, and a Newer Player Tip of the Week.
Supervised play and interactive lessons meet at 6:30 p.m. on April 27, May 11, June 8, July 13, July 27, and August 10, 2026. The $5 sessions use five prepared hands, with no masterpoints awarded. Andrew Straus also offers a June 22 lesson on slam bidding.
The mentoring program is on hiatus in August and September 2026 and resumes in October on first Mondays. Open players can mentor 499er and 0-20 players in the Open game, or learners can join a separate untimed teaching table. Participation may be occasional; no ongoing commitment or guaranteed match is required.
Newer Player Tip of the Week
Newer Player Tip of the Week: if opponents keep discussing the last hand while you are trying to bid the next one, politely say, “I would like to focus on this hand,” and ask them to finish after the round. If that does not work, call the director.
